The pectinate bramble (Hericium erinaceus) is an edible mushroom of the Hericaceae family of the duniper family. It has a very unusual appearance. Long (sometimes more than a centimeter) dangling needles gave rise to such popular names as "grandfather's beard" or "lion's mane.  Grows in northern China and also in Russia, mainly in Khabarovsk Territory and the Amur Region. It also occurs in the Crimea and the foothills of the Caucasus. The mushroom is listed in the Red Book of Russia, but in recent years successfully grown on special farms. Taste and useful properties of blackberry, grown artificially, does not differ from the natural mushroom.

The mushroom is widely used in Chinese folk medicine. Residents of the Celestial Empire believe that eating blackberries improves brain nutrition and contributes to improving intuition.

Some modern studies confirm the benefits of this type of mushroom. They contain a lot of erinacin. This substance improves growth and protects nerve cells and brain cells from death. According to scientists, this property should help in slowing the development of certain neurological disorders, such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and senile dementia.

Numerous studies conducted on cells, animals and humans have revealed the mushroom's benefits not only for the nervous system, but also in the treatment of cancer. However, these studies have not been long-term or large enough to say so with certainty.

In any case, be sure to consult with your doctor before consuming blackberry for the prevention or treatment of any disease or disorder.
