The plot of the image of the Mother of God "The Khotkovsky Intercession" (The Protecting Veil of the Virgin Mary icon) is inextricably linked with the life of the pious Russian ascetic Andrei the Fool, who lived in the X century in Constantinople. One day, he and his disciple Epiphanius came to the Blachernae Church, which was located at that time near the village of Khotkovo, to defend the all-night prayer service. During the divine service, he had a vision in which the Most Holy Theotokos covered all the people gathered in the temple with her Omophorion. The ascetic told the priest about his vision, thus appeared the icon "Pokrov Khotkovsky", in honor of which the Orthodox Church celebrates the great Christian feast of the Intercession, celebrated annually on October 14.
Blessed by the clergy at Saviour Cathedral in Moscow.
