All-Union Lenin Communist youth Union (Komsomol) or Komsomol (abbreviated from the Communist youth Union), full name — youth organization of the Communist party of the Soviet Union. It was established as the Russian Communist Union of youth October 29, 1918; in 1924, the Komsomol was named after V. I. Lenin — Russian Leninist Communist youth Union . After the formation in 1922 of the Soviet Union in March 1926 it was renamed as the all-Union Leninist Communist Union of youth (VLKSM).
In 1977, Komsomol consisted of more than 36 million citizens of the USSR aged 14-28 years.
The Komsomol badge boys and girls received at the age of 14 (that was the next step for yesterday's pioneers). Komsomol was created as a youth wing of the Communist party on the eve of the October revolution in 1917.
The first Komsomol icons looked a little different than in the 1958. The metal symbol of 1922 had the shape of a banner, with a red star inscribed in the center with the letters "KIM" (which means the Communist International of Youth). Instead of the abbreviation "KIM" in 1945 appeared "VLKSM" (the KIM fell apart in 1943). Finally, the design of the badge took shape already in 1958 - on the background of the red banner, in addition to the inscription "VLKSM", the profile of VI Lenin appeared.
