Crushed raw materials: Pieces of leaves of grayish-green or yellowish-green color, matte; thin stems – grayish-green or brown; petioles, petals, buds – brownish-green, yellowish-green; flowers, sepals and unripe fruits of various shapes passing through a sieve with holes measuring 7 mm.
The smell is faint. The taste of the aqueous extract is slightly bitter, with a feeling of mucosity.

Senna leaves contain anthracene derivatives, flavonoids, resinous substances, mucus. The composition of anthracene derivatives is dominated by glycosides: glucoaloemodin, glucorein. Sennosides A and B (direinantrone glucosides). Contains free glycogens.

Pharmacodynamics
A decoction of senna leaves has a laxative effect. The therapeutic effect develops 8-12 hours after taking the drug.
Indications
Chronic constipation, stool regulation in hemorrhoids, proctitis, anal fissures.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the drug, intestinal obstruction, abdominal pain of unknown origin, disorders of water and electrolyte metabolism, acute inflammatory diseases of the abdominal cavity, proctitis and hemorrhoids (acute phase), strangulated hernia, bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract, uterine bleeding, cystitis, spastic colitis, pregnancy, children under 12 years of age
Method of administration and dosage
About 10 g (2 tablespoons) of senna leaves are placed in an enameled dish, 200 ml (l cup) of hot boiled water is poured, covered with a lid and heated in a boiling water bath for 30 minutes, then the infusion is continued at room temperature until completely cooled, filtered, the remaining raw materials are squeezed out. The volume of the resulting broth is brought to 200 ml with boiled water .
Take 1/2 cup orally in the evening after meals. The course of treatment is 2-3 weeks. Before use, it is recommended to shake the broth.
Side effects
Allergic reactions, abdominal pain, flatulence, diarrhea are possible. With prolonged use - colitis.
Overdose
Symptoms: diarrhea, violation of water-electrolyte metabolism. Treatment is symptomatic.
Drug interaction
Senna preparations reduce the adsorption of tetracycline.
Special instructions
With prolonged use of senna preparations, addiction may develop, so it is advisable to alternate them with other laxatives.
