1950s Vintage Gossip Bench that is both versatile and functional and will add character to any space. This one-of-a-kind conversation piece provides light, seating, work surface and storage options, perfect for any size space! Could be used in an entry way, laptop or study desk, in an office, a guest room, personal library, the options are endless. Gossip benches have been around since shortly after the telephone was invented, but really became trendy in the 1940s and 50s, when women were primarily housewives and husbands were away from home. We’ve updated this piece, with the addition of an assimilated lamp, made from 1 ” copper pipe, kissed by a flame to add brilliant progressions of color to the neutral tone theme throughout the piece. A diamond cut glass pull switch, add a feminine touch, along with a handmade lampshade, wrapped in a tan hued twine, and imitation pearls that are meticulously nestled by twine along the lower rim of the shade. This solid wood bench seat features clean, minimalist lines, and tapered legs, spacious cubby and practical surface area. The entire piece was smooth sanded and we kept original warm mahogany stain, and golden oak stain was added to emphasize the beautifully aged areas. A newly upholstered seat cushion in a soft, knitted taupe fabric selected to compliment the handcrafted, light birch and contrasting black walnut inlay table top, with a bold geometric design. Wood surfaces have all been finished with several coats of a durable polyurethane gloss. We paid attention to every aspect and this piece is now in Very good condition, solid, and sturdy, with expected wear (I like to call preserved character).
