Materials and tools:

  1. Yarn and knitting needles.

For work, you need 2 colors of yarn of the same thickness - gray-green and orange. Try not to choose bright green shades. To make the plant look more realistic, the colors should be calm. You can focus on photos of live plants, and to get a more accurate shade, mix several different threads.

In my work I use pure wool yarn, I like that the finished product has thin small fibers (“Rasskazovsky Angorka”, about 300 m in 100 g).

For knitting, 2.5 mm knitting needles are used (a set of double pointed knitting needles or knitting needles with a cable), matched to the thickness of the yarn so that knitting is of medium density. When choosing yarn, please note: acrylic is almost always more voluminous than wool, so the thickness of the acrylic thread in a skein of 300 m in 100 g will be noticeably larger!)

  1. Needle for assembly and decor, in the eye of which the knitting thread passes.
  2. A small piece of wire or polypropylene twine for the frame in the stem (household cord, washcloths are knitted from a similar artificial fiber). The wire is more reliable - it will better keep the peduncle in an upright position. I use 0.8mm galvanized steel wire.

If you want to decorate a succulent with a peduncle in a brooch, then you can use a cord and put an additional clasp for a brooch on the peduncle.

  1. To create the roots, I use a light beige "iris" and a needle with a suitable eye.
  2. Materials for tinting: you can add a “tan” in pink tones to the tips of green leaves, and draw dark shadows between the rows of leaves. The tinting is applied with a brush, but on the tips of the leaves you can draw directly with chalk.
  3. To fix the tinting, you will need a solution of acrylic varnish (lacquer is diluted in a ratio of approximately 1 to 5-6 with water, applied with a brush). You can replace it with PVA glue, but in this case, the tinting will be fixed less securely.

The same solution will be needed to impregnate the peduncle with flowers, especially if there is a cord frame inside the peduncle, and not wire.

  1. If your flower will be a brooch, choose the right clasp. For a brooch with a peduncle, you will need two clasps - it is better to fasten the peduncle to clothes separately.

Together with this pattern, you get a separate file with a detailed description of all the abbreviations and techniques that I use in knitting.
