History reference: Mstera is a style of Russian painting, the name comes from a large village in the Vladimir region on the banks of Klyazma, where it originated. The art craft of Mstera differs from others in that it conveys the unique originality of the nature of this area, as well as the way of life of people. Initially, Mstera was an icon-painting style of painting, but then she migrated to, so to speak, everyday life - painting caskets, crafts, varnished miniatures, etc. In the second half of the 19th century, the Russian church split and icon painting died out as a result. Icon painters went to workshops where they worked to order, painting various products. Mstera finally became the usual style of Russian painting after the icons ceased to be in demand, as they began to be made in factories in droves.
