Knife: Meditations After an Attempted Murder by Salman Rushdie

Salman Rushdie's much anticipated memoir goes on sale this week—and already it's the book that everyone is talking about. Winner of the Booker Prize (and nominated five times over), Rushdie is known for combining magical realism and historical fiction to present stories of disruption and identity, migration and post-colonialism. As a major cultural figure (he has been knighted, after all), Rushdie’s first-ever memoir focuses on the horrific event in 2022 when he was stabbed onstage at a literary talk. While the book was under strict embargo, fans (and the Amazon Editors) are clamoring to read his story that will no doubt affirm the importance of art and literature in our culture as a countermeasure to hate and violence.
