The Seven Sorrows of the Mother of God. Orthodox blessed icon. Made of hardboard. 18x22 cm (7.1 х 8.6 inches). Official product of the Russian Orthodox Church. The icon is depicted the Most Holy Theotokos without Baby Jesus. The icon is depicted The Holy Virgin Mary bending Her head to the right shoulder and pierced in the chest with seven arrows or swords, of which four are on the left side, and three on the right. Such an image of the Mother of God is still found on the icon "Softening of Evil Hearts", or "Simeon's Prophecy", on which only the swords are arranged somewhat differently: three on the right and left, and the seventh – from below.

The icon is about 600 years old. For a long time, the holy image was laying under the  stairs of the bell tower of the church in honor of the Apostle John the Theologian (near Vologda). The icon, facing downwards, was taken for an ordinary board, on which they walked until the person in the city of Kadnikov had a vision that he would receive healing after praying before this icon. A prayer service was served in front of the newly found icon, after which the patient recovered. The icon became especially famous in 1830 during the cholera raging in Vologda.
