The not-told tale of the remarkable fifty-year relationship with two American icons: John Glenn, the undisputed pioneer of space exploration along with Ted Williams, indisputably the greatest baseball hitter of all time.
In 1953 with the Korean War in full throttle two experts in their fields, crossed the famous 38th Parallel into Communist airspace in the same Panther aircrafts. John Glenn was an ambitious operations officer with a whopping fifty-nine World War II combat missions to his name. His partner was Ted Williams, the two-time American League Triple Crown winner who, at the zenith in his professional career was mysteriously summoned to active service with the United States Marine Corps. Together, the friendly flyer and the notoriously volatile left fielder took off through North Korea, creating a unbreakable bond. While, for the next two decades their lives were tangled by thrilling extremes and devastating lows this bond would last for.

Through unpublished letters, unit diaries, declassified military records, manuscripts, and new and illuminating interviews, The Wingmen reveals an epic and intimate portrait of two heroes--larger-than-life and yet ineffably human, ordinary men who accomplished the extraordinary. In the midst was a conflicted relationship which found commonality in respect, despite the dangers of war, the dominance of sports technological advancement, competitive nationalism, responsibilities of fame and the importance of courage. Today, the writer Adam Lazaraus sheds light on an unrecorded chapter in the lives of these legendary figures--as unique people, awe-inspiring patriots and, eventually, however unlikely deeply close friends.
