"Zorki-4" was made since 1956 till 1973 by Krasnogorsky Mechanical Plant named after Zverev (KMZ), Krasnogorsk, USSR. This is the improved version of "Zorki-3S" and the most popular and the best camera from "Zorki" family.
Word "Zorki" can be translated into English as "sharp-sighted, observant".
Camera has a united viewfinder and rangefinder with one common eyepiece. Rear aluminium cover is removable. Eyepiece got a built-in dioptric adjustment.
Camera can use standard film cassetes and dual cylinder cassettes from Leica. Default lenses are "Jupiter-8"(2/50), "Industar-50"(3.5/50). Of course, all lenses with M39 (LTM) mount fit this camera.
Flash synchronization synchrocontact and self-timer are present. Tripod socket 1/4" and cold shoe.
Shutter is cloth and moves horizontally. Shutter speeds are: 1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/15, 1/30, 1/60, 1/125, 1/250, 1/500, 1/1000 second and B.
Totally 1 715 677 cameras were made. Price for that camera was 38 Roubles with "Industar-50" and 47 Roubles with "Jupiter-8". When exported abroad had a name "Aurora".
Two version are known: with barrel shutter lead up (early) and cock shutter lead up (late). The latter had a name "Zorki-4K". Totally about 2,3 mln pieces of both cameras were produced thus making this camera the most popular system rangefinder camera in the world.
This is the medium version of the simple "Zorki-4" without prominent frames around viewfinder and rangefinder windows on front panel. Name of the camera is simply painted with black ink. This is an anniversary type of the camera with the red inscription "50 Years of October" on the rear cover. Unfortunately, that visual artifact is partly wiped out at the camera offered. There is known a variant with black inscription.
