About this item
My dad passed away in October of this year and I’ve spent a lot of time since then cleaning out his house. He died of a heart attack but for reasons we can only guess there was blood on the floor and wall. We covered up the blood stain on the carpet with a small red rug. I took the reference pictures for this right before we had cleared out the furniture.
The rug in front of the nightstand is the only place in the painting where I used any red paint. The rest of it is phthalo blue, burnt umber, titanium white and yellow light.
I’m fairly new to oil painting and I am very self taught so I think there’s probably plenty of technical things I do wrong. But I’m proud of the content of this one. Sometimes it’s easier to make something to express grief than it is to express it in words.
