Tao, an immigrant fortune teller, travels from village to village with only her loyal mule for company. She specializes in "small" fortunes: predicting things like when it will hail, which boy the barmaid will kiss, or when the cow will calve. She’s learned the hard way that grand fortunes come with dangerous consequences...

Though her life is solitary, it’s far better than the one she left behind. But when a seemingly minor fortune leads her into an unexpected adventure, Tao is swept into a search for a missing child.
