The Teller of Small Fortunes
A wandering fortune teller discovers an unexpected family in this heartwarming and enchanting debut fantasy, perfect for fans of Travis Baldree and Sangu Mandanna.
Tao, an immigrant fortune teller, travels from village to village with only her loyal mule for company. She specializes in "small" fortunes: predicting things like when it will hail, which boy the barmaid will kiss, or when the cow will calve. She’s learned the hard way that grand fortunes come with dangerous consequences...
Though her life is solitary, it’s far better than the one she left behind. But when a seemingly minor fortune leads her into an unexpected adventure, Tao is swept into a search for a missing child. She’s recruited by a (semi) reformed thief and an ex-mercenary, and soon they’re joined by a baker with a "knead" for adventure—and, of course, a slightly magical cat.
As Tao embarks on this new journey with companions whose hearts are as big as her fortunes are small, she begins to let her guard down. But the shadows of her past are never far behind, and she must decide if she’s willing to risk everything to protect the family she never imagined she could have.
