History reference: The business was founded in 1848 by Johann Mielck in St. Petersburg as an optical glass grinding workshop and an optical goods store, and then continued by his son Fyodor Ivanovich Mielck. In 1873 the company was awarded the title of supplier of the St. Petersburg Eye Clinic.

Ten years later, a branch was opened in Moscow, where it proved itself to be of high quality products and became a commission agent for the Imperial Moscow University.

Among the honorable orders that Mielck carried out were glasses and lorgnets for Empress Maria Alexandrovna and for Emperor Alexander II.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, Mielck bore the title of "Optician of the Court of His Majesty and Her Royal Majesty the Queen of the Hellenes". Products of the Mielck Trading House received awards at prestigious domestic and international exhibitions, including the World Exhibition in Chicago in 1893 and the All-Russian Art and Industry Exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod in 1896. Anton Pavlovich Chekhov came to the company's store in Moscow to order pince-nez. He preferred to use Mielck's services. Two more stores and production were located in St. Petersburg.
