1. Valves of the Heart
a.

it is the last valve that separates the left ventricle from the rest of the body
c. TRY (tricuspid valve- right side of the heart) before you BUY (bicuspid/mitral valve -
left side of the heart)
i. Tricuspid - bc it has 3 leaflets
ii. Bicuspid - bc it has 2 leaflets
2. Mitral Valve Prolapse - ACTUAL VALVE
a. A hereditary disorder when the leaflets of the mitral valve prolapse or balloon back into
the atrium during systole
b. Not enough blood is being ejected from the left ventricle out to the body, that blood is
bouncing and ballooning back into the left atrium which causes stasis blood
i. Stasis blood: it’s not moving out like it should, it’s swashing back and forth
ii. Eventually, this evolves into regurgitation and stenosis
1. Prolapse = precursor to ^
c. Risk for developing Dysrhythmias: A Fib, A Flutter
