Espinheira Santa is a plant species that is native to Brazil: regions of Sudeste − in Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo states; and of Sul − in Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul states.

Espinheira-santa has antioxidant, healing and gastric protective properties, being used as a home remedy to aid in the treatment of gastric ulcer, heartburn, gastritis, má digestão, dor de estômago, acne e eczema.
