The Intourist Hotel was built in the late 1960s (architect Yu. N. Sheverdyaev, together with V. L. Voskresensky, A. S. Boltinov) as part of the creation of the all-Union hotel chain Intourist, which were part of the same name association. Specialization of the association was the service of foreign tourists (hence the name). The hotel was located at the beginning of Gorky Street (since 1990 - Tverskaya), at its intersection with Mokhovaya.
