The very first all-European military conflict gave rise to people like him - vagabonds and adventurers. Simplicissimus managed to be a servant, a rich man, a shepherd, a hermit, a thief, a jester, a cook, a hunter, an actor, a hussar, a doctor, a robber, a musketeer, a pilgrim, a beggar, an officer and a hermit. He even managed to visit the service of the Russian Tsar.
