History of the camera
This is the first independent camera created by "FED" plant, Kharkiv, Ukraine, USSR. Its ancestor "FED-1" was a copy of German Leica II. "FED-2" was produced since 1955 till 1970.
Instead of "FED-1" this camera has a united viewfinder and rangefinder with one common eyepiece. Baseline was increased up to 67 mm, rear aluminium cover became removable. Eyepiece got a built-in dioptric adjustment.
Camera can use standard film cassetes and dual cylinder cassettes from Leica. Default lenses are "Industar-10"(3.5/50), "Industar-26m"(2.8/50), "Industar-61"(2.8/52). Of course, all lenses with M39x1/28.8 (LTM) mount fit this camera.
Shutter is cloth, horizontal moving. Shutter speeds available: 1/25, 1/50, 1/100, 1/250, 1/500 and B.
Camera has tripod socket 3/8".
Today 4 versions are known. This camera is medium Type C, produced since 1959 till 1969. This camera has flash synchronization via cable and self-timer.
Totally 1 632 600 cameras were made.
