MATERIALS AND TOOLS:

  1. Yarn and knitting needles.

For knitting the ray in the photo, I used 2 mm knitting needles. Details are knitted in flat rows, the tail - using the I-cord method. Use needles long enough to place all the stitches in the row on them. I recommend using 20 cm long double-ended knitting needles or cable knitting needles.

Select the thickness of the yarn so that the knitting is tight enough for subsequent stuffing.

Choose the color of the yarn to your taste - darker for the upper part of the ray and light for the tummy (yarn should be the same thickness).

Opt for smooth yarn or yarn with little hair.
You can add an additional thread to the main thread - for example, a thin lurex thread or yarn with sequins.

To add a wave along the edges of the fins of the ray, you can knit it with a wire frame when assembling. For this variant, you will need a crochet hook.

If you do not install the frame, you just need to sew the details of the toy.

The size of the ray when using these materials, excluding the tail, is approximately 16 cm wide and 11 long.

  1. Toy stuffing.

  2. A needle for assembly.

  3. Secure mount eyes for toys or beads (and materials for sewing them on). For the ray from this pattern, I used eyes on a secure mount with a diameter of 7 mm. Since the eye sockets are knitted in the process, you will need to choose the size of the eye (beads) in accordance with the size of the eye sockets.

  4. To knit around the ray with a frame, you will need a thin beaded wire. In order for it to hold the given position of the detail well, it is better to use a diameter of 0.4 - 0.6 mm.

  5. Use materials for decoration at your discretion. The ray can be complemented with embroidery with French knots, beads or sequins.

Together with this pattern, you get a separate file with a detailed description of all the abbreviations and techniques that I use in knitting.
