Item description from the seller
down arrow

She lived in Asia Minor in the VIII century. At a young age, she took monastic vows from Hieromonk Sisinius and became the abbess of the Mantinian monastery.

The Venerable Anfisa experienced an onslaught from the iconoclast emperor Constantine Copronymos, who forced the saint to renounce the veneration of holy icons. For disobedience, Anfisa was tortured. The emperor's wife was present at the trial. Saint Anfisa predicted to her that she would have two children. And, indeed, a boy and a girl were soon born in the imperial family. When the prophecy came true, the martyr was released. She lived to a very old age. The girl who was born was named after Saint Anfisa.

All that is known about the holy martyr Anfusa is that she suffered for her faith in Christ. According to some sources, she was thrown into a deep well. As a rule, the holy Martyr Anfisa of Rome is depicted on nominal icons.

This icon is a high-resolution lithography print on hardboard, embellished with light-reflecting gold and silve foil.
