Saint Martha was Lazarus' older sister. Together with her younger sister Mary and her brother they were one of the most beloved families of Jesus Christ. When the Lord and His disciples visited the city of Bethany, Martha cared for them. According to the Gospel of Luke, Christ criticized her for her daily worries.
Martha was present at the Resurrection of Lazarus. After the Crucifixion and Resurrection of the Lord, she devoted herself to the spread of the Christian faith and was a distinguished member of the first Christian Church. He slept in peace and in old age. Her memory is celebrated on June 4 of each year.
Marfo-Mariinsky Convent in the center of Moscow
Marfo-Mariinsky Convent of Mercy of the Russian Orthodox Church was founded by Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna of Russia in Moscow in 1909. Today, it is located in the center of the city on Bol’shaya Ordynka Street, 34.
