This type of coin was issued in Ireland during the Second World War, from 1939 to 1942. Silver of the 750th test was used for the manufacture of the coin. On the ring we see the inscription EIRE instead of the earlier inscription SAORSTAT EIREANN. The change of the inscription was due to the fact that Ireland was gradually moving into a state of a completely independent state from Great Britain. It finally happened in 1949.
