Attack helicopter OKB M.L. Mile Mi-24P (P - "cannon") was launched into mass production in April 1981. It differed from early modifications with a machine gun mount by powerful cannon armament - a double-barreled 30-mm GSh-2-30K cannon was fixedly mounted on the starboard side of the helicopter. The weapon was aimed at the target by turning the entire machine, so the pilot, the commander of the helicopter, fired from the cannon. In addition to the cannon, the helicopter could still carry up to 2400 kg of payload: bombs, unguided missiles, anti-tank missiles. The Mi-24P was mass-produced until 1989.
