The Mi-24P (P – "cannon") attack helicopter of the M.L. Mil Design Bureau has been put into serial production since April 1981. It differed from the early modifications with a machine gun mount by its powerful cannon armament – a double-barreled 30-mm gun GSH-2-30K was fixed on the starboard side of the helicopter. The weapon was aimed at the target by turning the whole car, because the pilot – commander of the helicopter fired from the cannon. In addition to the cannon, the helicopter could still carry up to 2,400 kg of combat load: bombs, unguided missile blocks, anti-tank missiles. The Mi-24P was mass-produced until 1989. This modification was actively used in the Afghan war, during the fighting in Chechnya, as well as during the operation of the Russian Aerospace Forces in Syria.
