Before the revolution, the Novo-Ogarevo residence (now Putin's residence) was the estate of Elizabeth Feodorovna's husband, Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich Romanov.
Elizabeth Feodorovna Romanova (born Princess of Hesse-Darmstadt) was born in 1864. She was the wife of the Moscow mayor, Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich (the fifth son of Emperor Alexander II), who was killed by a terrorist in 1905. The Grand Duchess is known for her acts of mercy. She was killed on July 18, 1918, the night after the execution of the imperial family. Together with three relatives and four members of the royal family, Elizabeth Feodorovna was thrown alive into the mine of an abandoned mine in Alapaevsk (now Sverdlovsk region). In 1992, she and her sister Barbara were canonized.
Blessed by the clergy at Saviour Cathedral in Moscow.
