Description/history of the order:
ORDER OF MILITARY MERIT or VIRTUTI MILITARI
Polish Order, established in 1792 by Stanisaw August to reward officers who participated
in the war against Russia. At the request of Catherine in 1794, Stanislav August announced the prohibition of the order.
After the formation of the Duchy of Warsaw, its head Friedrich August, granted by Napoleon to the kings in 1807,
restored all Polish orders. After the defeat of Napoleon, all Polish orders again ceased to exist.
However, in 1815, Alexander I, having proclaimed himself the king of Poland, restored them.
Since 1834, the awarding of the order was no longer made, and the existence of the order practically ceased.
