Description/history of the order:
IMPERIAL ORDER OF ST. THE GREAT MARTYR AND VICTORIOUS GEORGE
Established November 26, 1769 Motto "FOR SERVICE AND COURAGE". Badges of the order of all classes were considered
as military awards for specific feats. Cross of the 4th degree at the same time served
and a sign of seniority, and since 1861, in such cases, inscriptions began to be placed on it:
"25 years" - for the army "18 campaigns" - for the fleet. The signs of the order were divided into large
(1 and 2 degrees) and small (3 and 4 degrees) crosses. White enamel cross has on the medallions
the Moscow coat of arms and the monogram of the letters SG. The golden diamond-shaped star belongs to both higher degrees.
