Stone oil is a natural product based on a natural mineral, representing a class of natural natural alum. The useful properties of this natural water-soluble mineral of white color (a creamy, reddish or yellow tint is allowed) have been known for more than 4 thousand years.

In Tibetan folk medicine, in which stone oil was and is still used today, this mineral is known as the "white stone of immortality".
