Drawing by Theodoros Pelecanos, in a 1478 copy of a lost alchemical tractat by Synesius.
Representation of eternity and infinity, in particular — the cyclic nature of life: alternations of creation and destruction, life and death, continuous regeneration and death. The symbol of an ouroboros has rich history of use in religion, magic, alchemy, mythology and psychology.
Medieval Art Print.
