Ermilovskaya toy is similar in some properties to papier-mache products. They are made from pressed sawdust. Thanks to this technique, toys are light, streamlined, with smooth corners.
The technology of the Yermilov toy is not easy, painting is laborious. In terms of cost, these products were expensive, and the government had to subsidize production in order to make them available to the widest possible consumer.
The manufacturing technology of the Yermilov toy is close to papier-mâché products. The Ermilovites used waste from the woodworking of coniferous trees, pressing sawdust with starch glue and talcum powder in the form of two halves of the form, which were then glued, cut off, smoothed with sandpaper, primed, painted and covered with several layers of varnish, which increased the brightness of the paints and gave the painting plastic depth. The result was an elegant, festive toy. 
At first, toys were painted with oil paints, then since the 1970s, with the opening of an artificial dye plant in Leningrad, they began to use bright nitro enamels for painting, which strengthened the decorative character of the painting and made the toys even brighter.
