The icon of the Mother of God  of Azov ("Sign of the Multitude of the World") is a unique monument of Russian iconography, which has a deep historical and theological meaning and marks the annexation to Russia of the vast territory of the Northern Black Sea region, including Novorossiya and Crimea.

The icon depicts the capture of the Turkish fortress of Kyzy Kermen in the first Azov campaign and the capture of Azov in 1695.
A special feature of the iconography is the image of the Mother of God with a Baby on the background of a double-headed eagle holding a scepter and a power in its paws - symbols of statehood.

Above, surrounded by angelic forces, the God of Hosts and St. A spirit in the form of a dove. The prayer stand depicts Saints Anthony, Theodosius and Alipius of the Caves, Moses Ugrin, Prokhor, Mark; below is a mounted warrior striking a serpent with a spear, as well as an image of foot and horse soldiers; verses are placed on the lower field.

In the lower left corner there is a picture of Azov with a quote about Babylon, and in the lower right corner - Kyz Kermen with a quote about Capernaum.
