Description/history of the order:
ORDER OF SAINT CATHERINE
The statute of the female order of St. Catherine was printed in 1713, and on November 24, 1714, Peter laid signs
to Catherine. The statute provided for the admission to the order, in addition to all the princesses of the royal family, also ladies,
occupying a high position in society. The name "Order of St. Catherine" was legalized in 1797.
Paul I, at the same time, the final version of the statute was established. The empress remained the head of the order for life,
even if she is widowed. Since 1855, the upper class cross was covered with diamonds, the lower - with rock crystal.
A seated saint is depicted on an oval medallion in the center of the cross. On the reverse side is shown
a snake-slaying family of eagles at the foot of the tower ruins. The explanatory inscription undoubtedly means
Catherine I: AEQUANT MUNIA COMPARIS (compares with her husband by labors).
