The Accented Hat Knitting Pattern is perfect for knitting a set of matching hats for mom and daughter. Since the pattern includes 2 hat sizes: toddler and adult medium. Perfect to throw on in cold weather to finish an winter or fall outfit.

Accented Hat is worked bottom up in the round with a folded brim. You start working in the ribbing 2 x 2 and then in a cable stitch pattern to the crown. Slouchy shaped.

NOTES:

  • The hat is seamless and worked in the round.
  • Skill Level: Advanced-beginner, Intermediate.
  • The hat pattern includes both written instructions and charts.
  • This pattern is available in English.
  • Skills: basic knitting skills (knit, purl, p2tog, ssk, k2tog, cables), working in the round, reading charts or working with written instructions.
  • Notions: stitch markers, cable needles, row counter (optional), tapestry needle or crochet hook for weaving in the ends.

 

SIZE:

  • XS – Toddler size, head circumference 18-19 ” (46-48 cm).
  • M – Adult medium size, head circumference 22-23 ” (56-58 cm).

The total height of the hat is after blocking:

  • XS – 10.6 ” (27 cm).
  • M – 11.8 ” (30 cm).

 

Yarn: You will need 65-100 gr of DK or Worsted weight yarn. It’s not necessary to use only natural fiber yarn for this project. You can also use blends (wool blends, alpaca blends, etc.). The sample is knitted with  DROPS Merino Extra Fine by Garnstudio, DK, 100% Merino yarn (105 m/50 gr).

Yardage:

  • XS – 149.5 yds (136.8 m).
  • M – 207.0 yds (189.4 m).

Needles: 16” (40 cm) US 6 (4.0 mm) circular needle and a set of double pointed needles for small circumference at crown. Check your gauge and adjust needle size(s) accordingly if necessary.

Gauge:

  • 22 sts x 30 rows = 4 x 4” (10×10 cm) worked in Stockinette st after blocking.
  • 29 sts x 30 rows = 4 x 4” (10×10 cm) worked in Rib 2×2 in the rounds (unstretched).
