Ceramic handpainted relief tile featuring a mythological creature of Russian legends "Bereginia".

According to legends, old Slavic symbols on the tiles will protect you from harm and will bring luck.

✨ We produce each tile by hand-pressing white earthenware clay into a plaster mold cast from our original hand-sculpted design based on the collections of 15th–17th-century Russian and Ukrainian decorative tiles from Yaroslavl, Chernihiv, Pskov, Kiev, Moscow, Novgorod, Smolensk, Vladimir and Suzdal. This tile has its origin in the ancient Ukrainian city of Chernihiv.

✨ It is made in the form of a water-nymph Bereginia. It is a mermaid from ancient Russian mythology. Bereginia was endowed with magical functions of a protective nature, personified the beauty, happiness and joy of being. Bereginya is a goddess who protects all living things. The goddesses protected people from evil spirits and predicted what would happen in the future. Bereginya saved people from the machinations of devils and Kikimora, helping them get to the shore. She saved small children who fell into the water, they represented the good forces of nature. She took care of the crops and the timely rain for them. Berehynias deities of fertility and moisture, they are watered by the dew of the fields of the magical horns. Bereginya is not just one of the goddesses of the Slavic pantheon. Its main feature is the ability to be embodied in other characters of legends-both divine and completely earthly. Moreover, Bereginya gives special powers to ordinary women, in each of whom lives a part of this wonderful goddess.

✨ Majolica art is very popular in Russia and Ukraine. In the old days, Russian stoves were decorated with ceramic tiles. 👉 If you want to see other tiles: 📜 Tutelary deity, or deities, of waters and riverbanks (cf. Old East Slavic beregu, "bank, shore"). In modern Ukrainian Native Faith she has been heightened to the status of a national goddess "hearth mother, protectress of the earth". Some scholars identify Bereginia as the same as Rusalka. In Old Church Slavonic, the name was prgyni or peregyni, and they were rather—as attested by chronicles and highlighted by the root *per—spirits of trees and rivers related to Perun. The interpretation as female water spirits, bregynja or beregynja, is an innovation of modern Russian folklore. She is cognate with the German goddess Fergunna and the Gothic Fairguni.
