The word ghassul comes from the Arabic word "ghassala", literally translated "wash". Ghassoul is volcanic clay. It is also called Rassoul. Both names are correct. The deposits of this ancient clay are found in only one place in the world, in the bowels of the Atlas Mountains in the Moulouya Valley in Morocco.

For centuries, people in North Africa and the Middle East have used ghassoul for body washes and beauty treatments for the face, body and hair. And now the royal family in Morocco preserves for itself in the mountains one of the many Ghassoul deposits. Traditionally, ghassul (rassul) is used in baths (hammams) for cleansing both the face and hair and body.

It is a pure natural natural product. In comparison with other cosmetic clays, ghassoul contains a scanty amount of aluminum oxide and this uniqueness allows using this clay not only on the face, but also as a mask around the eyes. Unlike bentonite clay, Rhassoul clay is known to be lead free. For this reason, Rhassoul can be substituted in recipes such as hair and face masks in place of bentonite.
