The main method of obtaining acid in industry is extraction from stearin.

In cosmetics, stearic acid is used as a mixture stabilizer and emulsifier in the manufacture of cosmetic creams and lotions, as well as in soap making as a thickener, making the soap hard and matte. In the production of soap, stearic acid salt, which has good detergent properties, is often used.

Stearic acid is used in the food industry as a food additive - emulsifier, foam stabilizer, glazing agent and antifoam with the index "E570 Fatty acids". Stearic acid is also used in the manufacture of candles and rubber (to provide greater plasticity and uniformity), greases and in the manufacture of stearine (usually mixed with palmitic and / or oleic acids).
